The Pollin Group and After Stonewall Productions is pleased to announce the first Gay Film Festival,
Pride of the Ocean, to take place on a cruise ship on the high seas.
Pride of the Ocean’s first historic cruise embarks January 17, 2010 from Los Angeles.
|
Scagliotti will present a number
of pivotal films from the four decades since the riots and will also premiere some
new works like:![]() the prequel to Before Stonewall, the classic historical film on gay life in the early 20th century, which won two Emmy Awards in 1986 for PBS. |
![]() Besides programming historical films and some new recent works, Pride of the Ocean will also bring together a number of filmmakers and stars to socialize with the passengers in intimate dinners, parties and seminars. This seven day cruise will tour the
Mexican Rivera and will offer free-style ticketing so that the attendees will also
be able to participate in many of the other activities and off-shore excursions offered
on the Mariner of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean Voyager Class ship.
“We started looking for different ways to take the glbt film festival into a more intimate world” said Scagliotti. He went on to explain, “Here in Vermont we have filmmakers stay for many days at a farm in the country and offer our audience a chance to spend time with them beside the usual Q&A after a screening. We have BBQ’s, seminars and dances. It’s like a down home community event. That is what we are trying to capture for Pride of the Ocean. These filmmakers work their hearts out and the audiences can spend time with them in a supportive atmosphere to talk about all the challenges that they face and the filmmakers will get thoughtful feedback from our audiences. The gay community loves its lgbt filmmakers and this is a great way to bring everyone together for more than just a question or two.” |
The Pride of the Ocean cruises will also be run as a benefit for small non-profit
glbt film festivals around the country. This first film festival cruise supports the
work of Kopkind’s CineSlam, which is the glbt shorts film festival in Vermont. ![]() CineSlam will also present some of their festival winners on the ship’s screening room like director Yu Suh’s Freedom on the Rocks which explores the relationships of Israeli and Palestinian gay and lesbians who come together at the only gay bar in Jerusalem. Other short winners like Larin Sullivan’s Dive about a night of lesbian frolicking and Joe Wilson’s We Belong which covers the bashing of a high school boy, will allow young filmmakers on board to talk up their upcoming projects to their future audiences. The Pollin Group, located in Chevy Chase, Maryland and led by Jim Pollin, is well established in the Cruise Industry, specializing in corporate and educational managed cruises. After Stonewall productions manages a number of documentaries and glbt film festivals. Call, fax or e-mail today! to make your reservation. |
